Cadets..
Our younger members are a very important part of the Club, and BHYC is proud of the comprehensive youth training opportunities we offer. Our Cadet activities provide a fun and safe way of learning and enjoying sailing and boating. Some of our cadets have progressed to become qualified RYA instructors, or round-the-world sailors, and have competed at the highest levels in national sailing events. Others have gained power-boating qualifications and provide safety cover and support for all our on-the-water activities.
Above all, we always aim to make sure every one of our cadets can have fun and enjoy whatever boating activity they choose, in a safe environment, and with qualified instructors on hand when needed.

What we offer..
Future Sailors - after school sailing courses at BHYC. A great way to start sailing, or if you are already a sailor you can progress your skills even more.
RYA Sailing Courses Stage 1-3 - Youth Training and Dinghy qualifications for beginners and onwards. Our RYA instructors can help you become an experienced and competent sailor, able to handle your boat in all conditions and prepare you for racing.
Other RYA courses - So much to choose from - seamanship, start racing, use a spinnaker, get your Powerboat Level 2 qualification, learn how to use a VHF radio and take a useful First Aid course.
Future Sailors
Our BHYC future sailors programme takes place after school during the summer months. With a variety of dates to choose from, and 3 different levels, cadets can participate in as many sessions as they like, progressing from basic dinghy handling to more advanced solo sailing.
RYA Stage 1-4
As an accredited RYA Training Centre, we offer the RYA Youth Training courses, stage 1 to 3. This is an ideal entry for either progressing towards the adult RYA Dinghy Level 1-3 course later on, or can be a pathway to more serious dinghy racing as part of the RYA British Sailing Youth Team.
RYA Powerboat
The Powerboat Level 2 course is open to all cadets age 12 and above, and we offer this RYA course to our cadets. Covering exactly the same content as the adult course, but tailored to suit the needs of younger members.

Not everything is about training. We run a number of activities throughout the summer -
family sailing days,
rib safaris,
activity week,
the annual regatta
and other one-off activities
.. all designed purely for fun and enjoyment. Designed for all ages from 5 upwards, and parents are welcome to come along as well to join in the fun.
