RYA Training Courses
RYA Youth Training Stages 1-4
Cadets need to be able to swim 25m and be reasonably confident around the water. Courses start at the very basics, explaining the parts of the boat and how to get it sailing. Stage 2 moves on to developing the skills needed to sail round a course and become more confident, and stage 3 extends those skills even further to enable cadets to sail in moderate conditions. Stage 4 introduces sailing a double-handed boat as helm or crew. Link to RYA Stage 1
RYA Dinghy Level 1-3
Similar to the Youth Training course outlined above, but more suitable for adults and older cadets. There is no minimum age requirement but younger cadets may prefer to opt for the Youth Training programme. Successful completion of all three levels will equip candidates with sound sailing skills, enabling them to confidently take part in Club racing, handle a boat on their own or with a crew and progress to further RYA courses if they wish. RYA Powerboat Level 2
Provides the skills and background knowledge needed by the competent powerboat driver and is the basis of the International Certificate of Competence. It aims to teach boat handling and seamanship in powerboats. It focuses on low speed close quarters handling, man overboard recovery, an introduction to driving at planing speed, and collision regulations. The minimum age is 12, and at BHYC we offer a tailored Level 2 course specifically for Cadets. Link to RYA Level 2 Powerboat

RYA Assistant Instructor course
Ideal for older cadets who wish to help others and is an important step for those aiming to take a full dinghy instructor course in the future. Link to RYA Course Information
RYA Marine Radio SRC course and exam
This can be completed on-line, but we also offer a cadet course at BHYC so cadets can get qualified to use a marine VHF radio. Link to RYA Course Information
RYA Seamanship Skills
For sailors already qualified to level 3 or equivalent, this course aims to improve boat handling and develop seamanship skills needed to solve problems while on the water. Link to RYA Course Information
RYA Dinghy Start Racing
